REVEALED: Psquare's Mum Died Few Hours After Heart Surgery In India

3
Peter, Paul and Jude
The Nigeria entertainment circle and fans of Psquare (Peter and Paul Okoye) are still in shock over the sudden death of  Psquare's mum Mrs. Josephine Okoye. The late mother of the Okoye's had been ill for some time, and was operated on in an Indian hospital a few hours before she gave up the ghost last night.

According to NET, she passed away about five hours after undergoing heart surgery.

A statement from Psquare’s publicist says
‘Josephine Okoye, who had battled with prolonged illness, passed away in an Indian hospital in Kolkata, last night July 11, 2012 at 11PM.’
Speaking to NET at his residence, Peter Okoye said their late mother suffered from diabetes.
We’re told she had earlier been admitted to St. Nicholas hospital in Lagos, but was flown out of the country when her condition worsened.

The atmosphere at Squareville, the Omole Phase 1 home of the Okoye brothers – Peter, Paul and Jude, was somber, less than a day after the news broke.

Friends and colleagues of the award-winning singers have been visiting the house to commiserate with the family.

A condolence register has been opened, and some of those who paid early visits include their album marketer, T-Joe, producers Flip Tyce and Samklef and TV host Helen Paul-Bamisile.
While Peter Okoye opened up his doors to speak with NET, Paul was not seen anywhere in the vicinity.

‘You know that she was a prayer warrior, so I don’t need to tell you how she stood by us spiritually. Besides, she was the only one that believed in us when we decided to make a career out of music.
I can remember that she used to sneak us out at night then to attend shows without the consent of our father who insisted that we must quit music to face our education’, Peter recounts.

She is survived by her Jos based husband, her children Ifeanyi, Henry, Jude, Lilian, Tony, Peter, Paul and Mary, as well as her grand-children, including Cameron, Peter’s son.

Usher Stepson's Jet Ski Accident: More Details Emerge

0

Details from the tragic Jet Ski accident that left Kyle Glover, stepson to R&B superstar Usher Raymond, brain dead continue to emerge. The incident report, obtained by MTV News from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, identified Jeffrey S. Hubbard as the vehicle's operator.
According to the report, Hubbard was operating the watercraft in Atlanta's Lake Lanier when he ran over two juveniles being towed on an inner tube by another boat at approximately 3:25 p.m. ET on Friday. Both of the injured children were flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. While the incident report didn't identify any of the injured by name, it has been reported that 11-year-old Kyle Glover sustained a head injury and had been declared brain dead by doctors, but officials have declined  to speak on his condition, citing privacy issues. The second victim, a 15-year-old girl, is said to have suffered a cut on the head and a broken arm.
A media representative at Georgia's DNR told MTV News that Hubbard was no stranger to Glover and that he was a friend of the family. Glover's mother, Tameka Foster, spoke  to RadarOnline, simply saying, "He's bad."
According to the site, the distraught mom also took to her Facebook page to send this message: "Kyle, You are strong.. You'll be saved I know it. I love you my baby. I need all #Prayers for my son! thanks you everybody!"
Foster and Usher were married in 2007, but divorced two years later in 2009 and are currently going through a custody battle. They are both reportedly at the hospital.
This tragedy comes a month after Usher released his latest #1 album, Looking 4 Myself.

Man Blows Off Own Genitals With Fireworks

0
Authorities in northern Michigan confirmed that fireworks blew off part of a man’s genitals earlier this week.Grand Traverse County fire personnel say a 45-year-old man was rushed to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City on Monday evening after a mortar shell exploded between his legs.
The man apparently thought the ground-based shell was a dud and went up to check on it when it fired, hitting the man in the left testicle, causing serious injuries, fire officials said.
The man’s present condition and identity are unknown.
Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department and the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s department responded to the incident, which took place about 8:54 p.m. on Monday on the 4500 block of Bunker Hill Road in Acme Township, near Williamsburg.
More powerful and dangerous fireworks legalized this year by the state Legislature have resulted in some serious injuries around the state , and were blamed for burning down a large, 1,100-family Catholic Church in Kentwood last weekend.
Although many downstate municipalities have banned the airborne or "consumer grade" fireworks as much as allowed by state law, Acme Township has not passed a local ordinance restricting their use beyond what's already on the books for noise violations, although that remains a possibility, say officials.
"We have had numerous complaints this year," Nikki Lennox, township zoning administrator.

Dana Air Crash Victims: Tears As Family & Friends Gather To Bid Final Farewell To The Anyenes (PHOTOS)

3
In Lagos, service of songs holds for family killed in Dana crash. It was a gloomy evening at the UPDC Estate, Lekki, recently where a service of songs was held in honour of a family wiped out in the recent Dana air crash. The Anyene family lost six members to the incident, including Barrister Onyeka Collins Anyene, his wife, Maimuna and their four children.

Despite the morning downpour that lasted till the late hours of the afternoon, sympathisers, friends, well-wishers and family members gathered to bid the victims farewell. The event was organised by Lagos Business School (LBS) Alumni Association of the Executive MBA Class 6 of 2001-2002.
An air of sadness pervaded the venue just as the songs were carefully chosen to reflect the mood of the evening. Some sympathisers and family members could not hold back tears. To help calm their nerves, an Acapela group rendered two songs entitled, weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning and an Irish song of blessing.
In his exhortation, Revd. M. K. Obiora Anyika prayed God to comfort the family and use the occasion to win souls for His kingdom. Reading from 1 Corinthians 15:12-26, Psalm 39: 4 and Ecclesiastes 1, the cleric took the sober, sombre congregation through the essence of life. “The Bible says, vanity upon vanity. What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul? David compared his life to a shadow and decided to live one day at a time,” he stated.

He urged them not to ask God questions and should not weep as those who do not have hope. Anyika blamed the incident on the decay and corruption in the nation saying: “We should not ask God questions because on a daily basis, standard is dropping. Corruption is high in the nation. Nobody is safe on the air or land. If we have served the nation so well, we wouldn’t be dragged into this mud.”
For the Anyene clan, it was one tragedy too many as the entire Collins Onyeka Anyene family was wiped out. His wife, Maimuna, who hailed from Niger State, also lost her mother, Mrs. Bakisumaidi Mijindadi and two cousins, Ogechi Njoku and Oluchi Onyeyiri.
However, the grief-stricken family was comforted by glowing tributes from friends, business associates, politicians, organisations, alumni and town union members, among others, packaged in a book of tributes and distributed at the venue. In his tribute entitled, My Friend, the Quintessential Collins Is Gone, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Aminu Tambuwal said: “ I have known Collins Onyeka Anyene, fondly referred to as Collins by friends and associates for over 10 years.
In fact, Collins has become more or less a part of my family.” He described him as a brilliant, industrious and forthright fellow, who exuded confidence and drive ceaselessly in all things that he did. “An incurable optimist and goal getter, compulsive workaholic, Collins would not go to sleep while his task remained unaccomplished. Indeed, Collins is a bundle of talent and promise gone with the wind. For me, it is still difficult to refer to him in the past tense.
Here was a determined and focused young man, who never had doubts about his objectives and goals. For many who knew him at close range, it was evident that he was a rising sun but alas, this rising sun set before noon.”

Mr. Emeka Etiaba, a former governorship aspirant in Anambra State, in his tribute said: “Much as we feel deep sadness on your demise, we recognise the fact that you were a young man who meant a lot to his friends, siblings, relatives and indeed all that came across you. We thank God that you left good impressions that will stand the test of time. You engraved your virtues in the hearts of many.”
The late Onyeka Collins, a twin, was born on August 16, 1967. He studied law at the University of Jos and later bagged an LLB from the Nigerian Law School in 1990. He obtained his Executive MBA from the Lagos Business School in 2002 and did executive programme courses at Harvard Kennedy School and London School of Economics in 2009 and 2010 respectively.
After his national youth service, he had a stint with Ade Odofin Law Firm before setting up Jus Polis Law Firm. He supported philanthropic causes, provided scholarships to the needy and kept many widows and needy on his payroll. In his vote of thanks, the deceased’s elder brother, Dr. Ben Anyene, thanked God and everyone for supporting the deceased’s family.

According to Dr. Anyene, Onyeka left the United States on May 27, 2012 with his family to attend his brother in-law’s wedding, share some quiet moments and present his children to their grandmother, his mum, who is in her mid 80s. The remains of Anyene and his family will be laid to rest on Friday, July 13, in his home town Ndiowu in Anambra.
May their soul rest in perfect peace.

'Dead' Masquerade Storms Olubadan Palace

0
Oriperinmo Ojeyemi Oloolu Ibadan (left), and an aide, Wasiu Ganiyu, at the Olubadan Palace, to protest to Oba Samuel Odulana, and show injuries sustained in a fracas between the most-dreaded masquerade, Oloolu, and its entourage by hoodlums

It was a big shock, yesterday, at the palace of Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana, when the most- dreaded masquerade, Oloolu, and its entourage besieged the monarch  with injuries allegedly sustained in a fracas between them and men of the state security outfit, Operation Burst.

The melee, which started Tuesday, worsened, yesterday, leading to the arrest of no fewer than 20 followers of the masquerade.

The masquerade which dismissed reports that it had been killed, complained bitterly about ”unprovoked attack” by some Islamic scholars.

How Oloolu was unmasked

Some parts of Ibadan city were embroiled in crisis when some muslims who were observing the eighth day fidau prayer of a colleague, at Popoyemoja, advised the masquerade and its  supporters not to come to the area because there were women there who the masquerade should not see, according to their belief.

But the masquerade and its adherents allegedly ignored the warning.

The trouble, which later spread to Idi-Arere and Beere, among others places on Wednesday night, generated much tension in the affected areas.

The leader of the Oloolu family, Chief Ojetunde  Asoleke, who led the team to the Olubadan Palace, appealed to the monarch to prevail on the police and the personnel of  Operation Burst to release 20 of their men arrested.

He claimed that the mask of Oloolu was seized and later released to them.
He said: “We feel saddened by the report that our man was killed as this was farther from the truth. No doubt, he was badly wounded as you can all see (showing the wounds sustained by the Oloolu on his arm and head), but was not killed.
”The costume seized by the men of Operation Burst has been retrieved and the festival would resume in earnest.”
They threatened to come out today, but were prevailed upon that it negated the normal tradition.
