| Big booty: Dancer Claudia Aderotimi thought a bigger bottom could get her into music videos |
The British student who died after jetting to America for an illegal 'butt enhancement' operation thought having a shapelier backside would make her a Hip Hop star.
Claudia Aderotimi, 20, believed a 'bigger booty' would help in her quest to appear in more music videos, her distraught friends have claimed.
One even revealed the aspiring dancer - stagename Carmella London - was dropped from one shoot because directors discovered she had been wearing padded trousers to help enlarge her bottom.
Talent scout Tee Ali, who met the university student when she filmed a video, told The Sun: 'She was a dancer and choreographer.
'The problem was she didn't have no butt, and she wanted a butt.
'She went to audition for one video shoot wearing fake booty pants and she got all the attention.
'But when they found out it was fake she didn't get asked back.'
He described her as 'victim' of social pressure to be perfect and thought a larger bottom would make her famous.'
The Thames Valley University student developed chest pains and struggled for breath 12 hours after she had the illegal silicone injections at a budget hotel.
She was taken to hospital but could not be saved.
A preliminary examination found the silicone filler had leaked into her bloodstream, leading to heart failure.
American detectives are investigating whether she was treated with cheap ‘industrial’ silicone, normally used as a sealant, rather than medical-grade material used in breast implant surgery.

| Pressure: She was dropped from one shoot because directors discovered she had been wearing padded trousers to help enlarge her bottom. |
It was not the first time Miss Aderotimi had had the procedure.
She is believed to have been treated in November and the latest injection on Monday may have been a ‘top-up’ procedure.
Accompanied by three friends, she travelled from London to Philadelphia for the treatment, thought to have been an early present to herself for her 21st birthday, which was due later this month.
But a day later she was dead.
Buttock enhancement surgery is becoming popular in the U.S., among women who aspire to the shapely curves of Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce and singer Nicki Minaj.
Minaj has become almost as famous for her posterior as for her voice, and rumours have spread across the web that the Massive Attack singer underwent surgery or uses pads to boost her bum, especially on urban gossip sites such as Bossip and mediatakeout.com. She, however denies having had surgery.
The illusion of a larger backside has become increasingly more fashionable among young women since the rise of the 'Hip Hop Honey' phenomenon.
A bigger behind has become almost a prerequisite for any aspiring dancer wanting to make it on the music video scene.
But the hip hop industry has come under fire for objectifying women in music videos where dancers - or Hip Hop Honeys - chasing fame can often leave themselves open to financial and sexual exploitation.
And in their desperation to beat off the competition, many resort to surgery to get ahead.
'Top up' procedures are only legal when the silicone gel is contained and sealed within an implant. But illegal injections of the material are also widely available from unlicensed back-room medics.
Last night one expert said having a direct injection of silicone gel – long outlawed in the U.S. and Britain, even for breast surgery – is ‘like playing Russian roulette’.
One of Miss Aderotimi’s friends is said to have had the same procedure but survived. Experts warned the silicone could still prove lethal for her in the future if not removed.
Police have searched the homes of the two women ‘doctors’ who injected the silicone and are investigating whether they are part of an organised gang who lure the unwary over the internet.

Last night more than a dozen distraught friends and family gathered at Miss Aderotimi’s home in Hackney, East London.
Her sister Vivian was in tears as she said: ‘We found out on Tuesday. We’re still in shock. We need to think about what we have to do.’
Miss Aderotimi’s mother, a healthcare assistant at Homerton Hospital in East London, said she was too upset to speak about her daughter’s death.
A neighbour said: ‘We are struggling to cope with what happened. One girl died and one girl lived.’
Miss Aderotimi and her friends flew out to the U.S. on Saturday.
She and another woman checked into room 425 at the Hampton Inn hotel, Philadelphia, a mile from the city’s airport, while her two other friends went to a party in New York. They paid around £100 for the room.
Miss Aderotimi had the buttock injections on Monday – thought to have cost around £1,300 – while her friend had the same procedure along with a hip enhancement treatment.
The ‘doctor’ who injected the silicone left soon after and was not there when Miss Aderotimi began complaining of chest pains.
Paramedics were called to the hotel and she was taken to Mercy Fitzgerald hospital where she died 90 minutes after being admitted on Tuesday.
Miss Aderotimi was born in London of Nigerian parents. Yesterday detectives raided the home of the woman they believed set up the illegal operation.
Computer files, emails and telephone records were seized from the house in Bergen County, New Jersey.
Emails from Miss Aderotimi arranging the procedure were among the material seized, but police said no formal arrests had yet been made.
Dr Rajiv Grover, president-elect of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, said: ‘Buttock augmentation isn’t a very commonly done procedure here, which is probably why these girls have resorted to going abroad.
'If correctly done, it involves implanting solid silicone implants into the buttock just like breast implants.

The correct procedure would be done in a fully equipped, sterile surgical theatre in a hospital and the patient would be fully anaesthetised.’
He said it appeared that Miss Aderotimi had liquid silicone injected ‘which is not a procedure that should ever be done’.
‘It seems she got away with it the first time around, and it’s true that you can get away with it sometimes,’ he added.
‘But it is like playing Russian roulette. Each time you have it done, you’re risking your life.’

PASTOR TUNDE BAKARE ACCEPTS TO BE BUHARI'S RUNNING MATE FOR THE 2011 PRESiDENTIAL ELECTION.
Why did you accept to run with Muhammadu Buhari?
If you understand my passion for this country, demonstrated over the years, I want to see a Nigeria that works in my lifetime and that was one of the motivations that started the Save Nigeria Group. In all my ministerial life, maybe three quarters of my messages are all on Nigeria and what is happening to the country at large.
In October last year, after meeting so many political gladiators, some of them are now party candidates. I came across so many of them, and I can say today that so far, one of them that I have found worthy in terms of credibility is Buhari. He needs to just build bridges with others so that we can win this election. All the time I was doing that, I never knew that I was going to take part in the political process other than just mobilizing people to vote in the 2011 elections, but all I know is that he wants me and when he made the call to ask me if I would consider running with him, I made consultations, and at the end of the day, I felt this is one way to contribute to the future of my country.
Before he called you, did you ever contemplate seeking an elective post or going into politics?
Not in 2010, not in 2011. I never considered running for any offices. As a matter of fact, in all that you have been reading or listening to, I said so that I am not going to take part in the political process other than mobilize the people.
So it was his call that led to your change of mind?
Well, I think so, and because of the situation in my country. Whether one person is running or the other person is running, I think that all Nigerians should be running. I am being modest. I think that all Nigerians should wake up and rise up now to do what is right.
Critics are saying that religious leaders should not go into politics. What do you say to them?
In Romans 13, the Bible says that every authority that exists is ordained by God and he calls those in government, ministers of God almighty. So ministry is not limited to the pulpit. Ministry is whatever you are doing to serve God and humanity.
President Goodluck Jonathan is enjoying an incumbent’s privilege. does that worry you?
Well, as a matter of fact, President Jonathan himself is a child of necessity. It is the death of President Umaru Yar’Adua that brought him into the office and I respect that office, and the truth is if Nigerians are not troubled and Nigerians are getting what they should get, nobody would even be thinking of contesting an election against him. I know there are professional politicians who seize every four years for them to rise up, but if someone is doing a good job, running against such a person is a vision stud. You will lose everything, including your resources and efforts. But right now, the cry of an average Nigerian is ‘anything but PDP’, but we are not just going to replace them with just anybody. We need to get credible people and we will move this nation forward and pull it from the brinks.
Do you mean that Nigerians deserve more than what the present government is giving?
Exactly. Even looking [at the past] 50 years, Nigerians deserve better.
Was the Save Nigeria group created for the purpose of Buhari’s presidency as it has been speculated?
Well, you can do some investigation yourself, because now you want me to be a judge in my own court. At the time Save Nigeria Group began, it was to address a major and vital issue — the issue of power hijack. Those who were not elected to serve in the office of the presidency of the country were exercising the authority to do what they liked. It was the health issue that took President Yar’Adua away that brought us into the streets. It was not PDP or CPC that took us to the streets. It was after that time that we now began to start thinking of 2011 to be the year of the voters and the year that our citizenship must be enlightened; social mobility must be restored and sovereignty must be the lot of our people. We must choose the best, the most competent and the country people must be free to express themselves at the polls. That was the purpose for the SNG; it has nothing to do with this party or that party and it has never teamed up with any political party.
Many believe that Buhari is a religious fanatic. How do you see him?
I have had the privilege of sitting with him, to see his environment, to see what he does. He relates with all kinds of people from different backgrounds, different walks of life and different religious persuasions. To be fair to him, yes, he is a good muslim. As you know, by God’s grace, I am also a practising Christian and if such a man can say today that he is appointing a pastor to be his running mate, does that not confirm he is not? So that is it.

Ritualists’ camp: Where people are killed for money!!!
![]() |
| A victim at the foot of Obadore Bridge |
For passers-by, Obadore Bridge along LASU - Iba - Isheri road, Lagos is just any other bridge for the convenience of motorists. But the bridge is a personification of evil. It gives a picture of evil on all fours. It depicts desperate wickedness, bestiality, heartlessness and man’s inhumanity to man. Indeed, it shows a picture that diminishes man.
Findings revealed that Obadore Bridge is not just a linking bridge. It’s a slaughter house where people are daily killed and their bodies dismembered for money-making. At the time of writing this report, the body of an unknown person, with some of the vital parts missing, lies near the bridge at Obadore to tell the story of this evil place.
Saturday Sun investigation revealed that Obadore Bridge has become a favourite hunting ground for ritualists and sundry criminals.
There, evil men ambush unsuspecting members of the public, hack them down and dismember their bodies. The area is usually littered with corpses that have missing parts, such as private organs, breasts, tongues and eyes.
It was gathered that agents of ritualists, who operate commercial buses, take innocent passengers to Obadore, where such victims are killed and their vital parts cut off. Also, the killers waylay commercial motorcycle operators and their passengers. Such victims are knocked down the bike and dragged into the forest and killed. Also, some commercial motorcycles collude with the ritualists and take unsuspecting commuters to the place to be killed.

| Obadore Bridge |
Findings revealed that when such commercial motorcycle operators get to the foot of the bridge with passengers, they would stop their bike, pretending that they have developed mechanical faults. At that instant, the ritualist would swoop on the passenger and drag him or her to the forest, where such a person is killed.
Saheed Musbau, a resident of Obadore, told Saturday Sun that he missed death by the whiskers when he was attacked near the bridge last December. Telling his story, Mustan said that evil operators around the bridge knocked him down from his motorcycle and tried to drag him into the bush. According to him, he was lucky that the blow from a club used by the ritualists landed on his back instead of the head, where they had aimed. He fell, quite alright, but did not lose consciousness. According to him, when his attackers, thinking he was unconscious swooped on him and were dragging him into the bush, he quickly got up and ran away.
The commercial motorcycle operator said of Obadore, he said: “In some cases, you will find motorcycles belonging to the victims, without any trace of the owners. They would have been killed and vital parts of their bodies removed.”
Musbau, who is a commercial motorcycle operator further said: “They usually dump their victims’ bodies in the forest. People usually perceive offensive odour any time they are passing through the bridge because of the decomposed bodies of victims of ritual killings.”
Another resident of the area, Mrs. Goodness Lawrence, offered further perspectives to the nefarious activities going on there. She said: “There is no doubt that the Obadore Bridge and its environs are dangerous spots. Apart from the ritual killers parading the place, cultists from the Lagos State University (LASU) also carry out their initiation there. Thieves also camp there in the night and rob people. In fact, you are as good as dead if your vehicle breaks down near the bridge at night.”
She added that when the second bridge was being built at Obadore, following the dualisation of the LASU- Obadore- Isheri expressway, a mass of human bones were discovered at the foot of the bridge.
Checks also revealed that illegal bunkering also goes on in the forest. The illegal bunkerers operate in the night, stealing petroleum products from pipelines.
When Saturday Sun visited the bridge recently, a group of young men were seen smoking Indian hemp. At the Oko-Efo end of the bridge, some people were seen enjoying roasted (dry) meat and palm wine, while exotic cars lined the roadside.
A source, who craved anonymity, squealed that there could be more to the daily rendezvous going on there than meet there ordinary eye. When contacted on telephone, the public relations officer of the Lagos state police command, Mr Frank Mba, said that the command is aware of the allegation that rutualists prawl the area. He, however, volunteered that the command had intensified overt and covert security patrol of the area area, adding that hoodlums and sundry criminals have been arrestd. He appealed to members of the public to coperate with the police by providing information that could lead to the arrest of enemies of society. He argued that the criminals are not spirits but human beings living in the midst of people.

Nollywood bans Actress Yvonne Nelson Over feud with Jackie Appiah.
![]() |
| Jackie Appiah |
For the past six years, the duo of Jackie Appiah and Yvonne Nelson has been the major faces of the nascent Ghana movie industry, nay Nollywood. They have through their star power, looks and charms, elevated the evolving Ghallywood from a curiosity it once was considered to a top brand it currently enjoys. The two super stars have alternated between them hundreds of leading roles in many commercially viable and critically acclaimed movies. On screen, the two usually project a chemistry of amity and harmony, which in real live rings false. To assert that Jackie Appiah and Yvonne Nelson were in competition over supremacy and primacy of importance is to state the obvious.
Despite the façade of friendship they projected, the two stars had allowed the negative emotions of
jealousy; ego and pride to come between them. To Yvonne Nelson, as sources close to her told us, she was the better actress, the more beautiful and the fan’s favorite and she expected producers and directors to treat her accordingly. She made it known that she was to the Ghana movie industry what Genevieve Nnaji is to the larger Nollywood – a megastar whose words and expectations must be respected and met, no questions asked.
According to a leading figure in Ghana movie industry, Yvonne Nelson “is a diva of indescribable
proportions. She does what she wants and thought she was above and beyond reproach. She thought the adulations and her status as one of the major faces in the industry conferred upon her the capacity to foist her own rules on everybody. She won’t come to set on time, and when she appeared, she would expect to be catered to, and all her little whims and needs be met expeditiously. She expects all other stars to genuflect to her and do her biddings. To her, everyone should
be happy that she had lent her ‘majestic’ presence to the movie and should be treated as such. “For a long time” the source continued “we had indulged her whims – not because we wanted to, but simply because we had a production to finish and on schedule too, and we did not want to be
bogged down by her infantile posturing. But we knew that it won’t be long before we wielded the cudgel and chop her to bits.”
Jackie Appiah on the other hand, according to the same source, is a true professional – sweet, friendly and shone of all the trappings of stardom.
“Jackie, in spite of her bonafide stardom is the consummate professional. She is not in your-face, me, me, and me kind of a star. She believes that
she has been blessed to be given a chance to ply her craft to the admiration of her loyal and teeming fans. She has refused to be goaded into an open war of supremacy with Yvonne Nelson, and thinks that the industry is large enough to accommodate as many stars and mega stars as possible.
She has always accorded her props and respects to Yvonne Nelson, not minding the fact that in the real scheme of things, if the truth be told, she is by far a better actress than her. We had always hoped and prayed that Yvonne Nelson wouldn’t start any unnecessary brawl in the industry –
one that would affect the ring of harmony or controlled ego that we have so far been able to weave around our major stars. But that was exactly what happened.
According to facts made available to The Diasporan Star exclusively, Jackie Appiah had been granted a few concessions while onset of a movie production. It is not often that she had requested such concessions, and the director felt he should grant her wish, and he did. That’s where all hell broke loose. When Yvonne Nelson heard that Jackie had been granted some waivers, she flew into an uncontrollable rage and demanded similar treatment. “If you did that for Jackie, then I must be accorded similar treatment,” she had demanded. “At first we thought she was playing” our source had stated “but she was deadly serious. “If you don’t do the same, I promise you, I will not continue with this production” she had threatened. We still thought she was bluffing, but when she indeed walked out of the set, since we didn’t meet her demands, we knew it was time to cut her down to size.
I mean, come to think of it, we made Yvonne, we discovered her, we made her the star she thinks she is today, and the fact that she can ride roughshod over her benefactors was something we didn’t wish to countenance and we told her in no uncertain terms that there would be a huge price to pay if she walked out. She did, and we acted and our decision was swift and binding: Yvonne is to be banned for one year in Ghallywood
and in Nollywood as well. Any director or producer who features her in his or her movie would be blacklisted and any movie she does in Nollywood, would not be sold in Ghana. We want to bring sanity to the industry and to send a powerful message to others who may think that they can impose their will and rubbish the discipline and professionalism that we have worked hard to foster in the industry.”

WILL YVONNE SURVIVE ONE YEAR BAN?
Many in Nollywood and Ghallywood are wondering if Yvonne will survive a year ban, given the fact that though she has chalked up a number of credits in Nollywood, she is not in the same league as Genevieve, Omotola, Stella Damasus and Rita Dominic, RMD or Ramsey Nouah who had suffered similar fate about four years ago when they were banned for one year in Nollywood, due to excessive amount of fees they had demanded, and for making it impossible for new talents to come into the industry. In spite of the stardom the above stars enjoyed, when they came back to the industry, almost all had struggled to regain their aplomb and many Nollywood insiders are of the opinion that the one year ban, affected those stars adversely, even though ome are still thriving while others like RMD, has moved on to a career in public service. While the above stars were banned, new and fresh faces were discovered, prominent among them – Mercy Johnson, Chika Ike and even Yvonne Nelson herself among others who have
since become the leading lights in Nollywood. Many think with Yvonne Nelson out of the spotlight in one year, her spot will likely to be taken by other aspiring and pretty actresses, who have been waiting in the wings for moments like this. We shall see if that is the fate that will befall her, or if on the other hand, she will turn conventional wisdom on its head and come back stronger, and even more popular than ever. We wait to see how that will unfold!

NOLLYWOOD TOP ACTRESS RAPED BY A PHANTOM AGENT
A prominent Nollywood actress who bought a carefully woven lies peddled by a sick and emotionally troubled wannabe agent, was allegedly raped mercilessly by the ‘agent’ and his sick minion sometime last month in Accra, Ghana, sending in the process a big chill down the spine of most female top stars in Nollywood.
According to our very dependable source, the actress – a beloved Nollywood princess was contacted by the man who claimed to have deep industry contacts in Hollywood, and had pictures he allegedly had taken with some big actors, and actresses in Hollywood, to validate his claims. He told the actress that he believed she was destined for bigger and better things and that he would help set up meetings and deals for her in Hollywood. “The actress was over the moon with excitement” our source continued “I mean who in Nollywood, wouldn’t mind being represented by a big agent with industry-wide contacts in Hollywood? She quickly agreed to meet the ‘agent’ in his hotel suite in Accra.” “At their first meeting,” our source continued, “everything went spectacularly well. She was shown pictures the guy had taken with some top stars in Nollywood, and he proceeded to show her some paper work he wanted her to take home and study, with the view to representing her in Hollywood. They had some drinks and she came back all excited and telling all that cared to listen that she would soon be Hollywood bound. The ‘agent’ asked her to meet him the following day so they could sign the agreement and set the ball rolling.” “She was on time at their second meeting and in high expectations” our source went on to add “and after some rounds of drinks, things went terribly awry.
Unknown to the starry-eyed actress, the man who claimed to be a ‘big Hollywood agent’ was nothing other than a con-man out to prey on the vulnerabilities and hopes of bigger stardom by some Nollywood actresses. He was said to have laced the drinks with date rape drugs, and soon, the actress became delirious and eventually passed out. The heartless goon was said to have violated her mercilessly and satisfied with his sick designs, left her in the room and took off. When she woke up, and finding herself naked and violated, she was said to have cried uncontrollably and feeling ashamed to inform the hotel and the police about the rape, and what that would do to her name and image in Nollywood, she chalked up the sad experience as a teachable moment. She however, confided the ugly experience to some of close friends, who, in turn mentioned it to others, and now, it has become the least kept secret in Nollywood.”
The experience of the actress has sent deep chills in the industry, and actresses no longer deals with strangers directly. Most now insist on such ‘agents’ dealing directly with their managers first and if need arises for them to meet with them, it would be done in other people’s presence. Also, meetings at hotels, even though it may be unavoidable, are being frowned upon, by some actresses. Most will rather prefer a meeting in an office setting. The sicko, who perpetrated the heinous crime, is said to have bailed out of town, but some Nollywood top guns are said to be on the look-out for him, and hope to apprehend him soon, and allow the law to take its course. Meanwhile, the actress has resumed her life, and according to close friends was lucky not to have been infected with an STD after the horrible rape based on the result of the medical test she ran.

Iyeoka Ivie Okoawo – The poet
Like Tolu Ogunlesi, Boston-based Nigerian American Iyeoka Ivie Okoawo is living proof that Nigeria has the highest ratio of pharmacists-turned-poets in the world. A bard, singer, activist and educator with a degree in pharmacy, Okoawo was also appointed a 2010 TED Global Fellow, a move which underlines her commitment to let her message be her medicine. Okoawo released her first solo album of poetry and music (“Black and Blues”) in 2004 and at the beginning of this month she put out her third, an album titled “Say Yes” which made history as the first-ever ‘Evolving Album’ which gives purchasers added content for free as the album evolves. Her name means “I want to be respected” in her native Esan language, and with her extraordinary talent we don’t see how we could do anything but.
