The Ogun State Government on Monday announced its plan to construct the first pedestrian bridge in Abeokuta, the state capital. Governor Ibikunle Amosun says the bridge will be air-conditioned.
The bridge will be built around the famous Ibara roundabout of the ancient town, and is expected to reduce traffic congestion and accidents at the ever busy junction.
Mr. Amosun made the disclosure while commissioning the 2.5km Ibara-Ita-Eko road in Abeokuta which gulped a total of N1.3bn.
The governor says the on-going construction projects in the state are part of his administration’s “urban renewal programme”.
Mr. Amosun also said that the bids for 18 additional roads, that will cover about 147.5km, have been opened. The projects are expected to boost economic development and beautify the state.
The roads are: Somorin-Ajebo, 5.6km (4lane); Ikangba-Obalende-Lagos Garage-Oke Owa-Ilese, 20km (4 lane); Ilara-Ijowun-Eggua-Oja Odan-Ilase, 60km (2 lane); Sagamu/Benin Expressway Junction-Remo Secondary School roundabout-Isale Oko-Akarigbo street-Sabo-Oba Erinwole junction, 7km (4 lane); and many others.
